Update from CUPS and the Pillowcase Dress Project
Dear Shirley, We had a lovely morning yesterday in the small fishing community of Mano de Leon. It is about 60 miles SE of Matamoros and south of Padre Island.
With the kind permission of the primary school teachers, we used one of their classrooms to distribute the pillow case dresses to girls attending the local kindergarten, primary school, and middle school. We were fortunate to have enough t-shirts and shorts to give each boy a gift as well. Some of the t-shirts were donated by Bethel PC.
In addition, 10 Bibles plus appropriate strength reading glasses were given to adults and seniors. This all came from other CUPS friends.
CUPS has worked with this community for many years and the 23 year middle school students enrolled this year have classrooms thanks to CUPS volunteers and the Mano de Leon community leaders who lobbied successfully for a middle school facility. All this happened about 10 years ago. Prior to that most students did not continue study after primary school since the nearest middle school was not within easy travel distance.
Thank you so VERY much for your donations, keep up the good (better said beautiful) work, and I hope that you will send more for “our” kids in Mexico. Your labor of love means so very much to families in Mexico. It is a sign of God’s love and equally follows Jesus’ commandments.
