The Colors of Lent

Posted on March 21, 2013

As we continue our “In the Wild” journey this Lenten season helps us to remember how Jesus prayed and fasted in the wilderness before beginning his ministry. Just as Jesus prepared his heart and his head for the journey of his ministry, Lent calls us to venture into the wild to prepare our own hearts and heads.

We continue to prepare ourselves using various colors of Lent. This sixth week of Lent, let’s think about the color Pink, which represents Charity and Dedication.

Pink is that soft, subtle color which is necessary for a dedicated Christian.  Pink is love of God overflowing into love of neighbor.  Pink signifies faith welling up inside us until it spills over into action.

Pink is the color of charity, not from surplus, but from substance.  It is the color of involvement even when the cost is pain.  It is the color of forgiveness, not only of friends, but of enemies as well.  Pink is the color of total abandonment to God’s will and trust in him.  Pink testifies to the presence of the spirit of God in our lives.

Yes, Pink is necessary in the rainbow of every dedicated Christian.

Prayer

Help me, God, to find ways to love others and remember the love that Jesus had for us all.  Each time I see the color Pink I will remember to grow in charity and dedication.  Amen.
