June 16, 2020
Dear members and friends of Spring Branch,

I am writing today to let you know that on Friday evening I received the news that one of our Academy teachers had tested positive for COVID-19.   This teacher was in our facilities on Monday and Tuesday of last week and showed symptoms on Wednesday, so did not report to work.  Rather, the teacher rightly went for testing.  Subsequently, that particular class was quarantined for 14 days, as per CDC guidelines.  The families directly affected were asked to have their children tested, also according to the guidelines.  Today it was learned that one of the children has also tested positive.  This particular child has been completely asymptomatic.

So, what are we doing about this unfortunate situation?   First, all Academy staff have been sent for testing.  We should have those results soon.  Our cleaning staff is well versed in disinfecting the facilities and is continuing to take all available measures.  Because there was some contact between the church and Academy staff, I have recommended that all of our staff get tested as well.  I was tested today, and should have the results within 2-3 days.  Although my chances of infection are remote, they are not zero, so for your sake and mine, I will need to be sure.  In addition, I am requiring that all of our church staff isolate and not work from our facilities for 14 days since the time we know there was infection in the building.  So, the church offices, classrooms, and parlor will be in quarantine until June 26.  All essential meetings will be moved to online.  This means, unfortunately, that the worship service for this coming Sunday will again be recorded, but remotely.   Hopefully this will be the last time.  As for worship on June 28, we will be closely monitoring the situation and will make that decision by the middle of next week.

What can you do to help?  First, please be patient as we deal with this situation.  As soon as we have all of the test results, we will be in a better situation to provide scheduling information.   That being said, the staff is still hard at work.  Feel free to call the staff members if there is anything specific you need.  If you feel you should be tested, we do have some information we have collected concerning testing sites.   Many thanks to all of you who have continued your generous support of our congregation.  It is very much needed right now.   And please also remember that during this stressful time, I am available to each of you.  In case you need it, my phone number is 281-813-9395.  So please do call if there is anything I can do to be of service to you.

In Christ’s Service,
Kevin Boyd, Pastor
