A Peek at Saints Under Construction Class
by Patti Nanney
Worship means different things to different people. There are three primary questions concerning worship that should be answered:
- Whom do we worship?
- How do we worship?
- Why do we worship?
During the Spring Quarter, the Saints Under Construction class have been looking at worship. In March we focused on worship in the early church. In April we focused on worship in the church today. During May, we will use the book of Revelation to look into the future of worship. These lessons provide answers for all three questions of whom, how, and why.
The lessons for May 8 and May 15 are coming from earlier chapters of Revelation and will take us to scenes of worship found in the throne room of Heaven. We will see that Heaven is a place of continuous worship and praise. Worship involves all the residents of that glorious realm.
Lessons for May 22 and 29 look at worship from the other end of the book of Revelation, as worship occurs in the New Jerusalem. There we are given a powerful example of improper worship when the author, John, falls on his face to worship the angel who has shown him the secrets of Heaven. This is unacceptable, and the angel forbids and rejects John’s act, reminding him, “Worship God”. These selections from Revelation are a fitting conclusion to the quarter’s look at the rich tapestry of Christian worship found in the New Testament.
Saints Under Construction Adult Sunday School Class uses the Presbyterian curriculum “The Present Word” and meets from 9:30-10:30 am in Room #2 in the Gathering Place.
