Back to School! Be a Mentor at Cedar Brook Elementary
Make a difference that money can’t buy! Join the Spring Branch Presbyterian Church Mentor Program working with students at Cedar Brook Elementary. No tutoring is required…the students just need the extra support of a caring adult to be a friend, role model and guide. They need someone to encourage them, to help them discover their gifts and talents and to believe in them so they believe in themselves. The kids in the program are just on the “brink of success.” They just need that little extra attention. Mentors visit their students once a week for 30-45 minutes during the lunch time.
Children in the Mentor program are reported to be more focused on school and academics, and feel better about themselves. There is increased participation in sports and leadership roles and there in an increased percentage who attend college.
Each week we meet in the library, play games, do simple crafts, or just visit while they eat their lunches. We ask for a one school-year commitment from our mentor volunteers. You can do the mentoring on the day that is most convenient for your schedule.
Those interested should contact Doris Wright (281-797-1693) or Sarah Dikeman (713-468-3973) for more information. They will assist you with registering and help arrange for training.
