Community Garden at SBPC
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. – 1 Peter 4:10
There are lots of ways to get members involved in community gardens. The key thing is to have a thorough understanding of the type of help needed and a clear plan for how and when community members can get involved. This is an outreach ministry, initiated by the Stewardship Team and eventually maintained by the Ministries Team. We will be inviting the surrounding community to develop and maintain plots in the garden.
We plan to provide clear instructions for garden tasks, and won’t assume that everyone has the same level of garden knowledge. Our goal is to make sure to have regular communication with our volunteers, to distribute a contact list so that volunteers can contact each other in case they need to change their schedules, to maintain a garden bulletin board for announcements and to keep track of tasks. And above all, remember to thank and celebrate our volunteers! The groundwork is being laid by working with the City of Spring Valley to insure we are within city regulations when planning the garden space; locating an appropriate space on our property for the garden (please let Rebecca Fairchild or Kristi Click know if you have an idea on this!); and preparing a grant application to be sent to Presbytery. We hope to be ready for our first planting this time next year!
