Newest Academy Board Members

Posted on February 28, 2013

The new members of the Academy Board beginning service in June, 2013 are Sarah Dikeman and Rebecca Smith.

We thank them for volunteering to serve and we also thank Jennifer Fuller (chair) and Charlie Craig for serving the past three years.  See something about each new board member below:

Sarah Dikeman

I grew up in Spring Branch, watched this church grow through the decades, and married into this church family- the Dikemans being among the charter members. I became a member in the late 70s. In the early 70s, before even being a member, I served on the committee to establish the Academy, then known as The Learning Center. As a member of this church I have taught Sunday school, served as elder, headed Vacation Bible School, been on two Pastor Nominating committees, mentor at Cedarbrook, chaired the 50th and the 60th anniversary committees, and am active in the Presbyterian women in all capacities, serving presently as the moderator. Matt and I raised our two children at Spring Branch Presbyterian and are enjoying bringing granddaughters here now and in the future. My involvement is because a caring, loving and supporting Church family is important to me in my life, I view the Academy as a positive outreach to our own members and the community. I have watched it begin, grow, struggle and flourish through the 40 years of existence and proud that it is thriving and giving so much to so many.  I graduated from UT Austin with degree in elementary education, taught elementary school for 5 years – 4 being at Hollibrook Elementary and 2 years at Ragsdill’s preschool before having children.

Rebecca Smith

I’m originally from Ohio and was raised in the Methodist church until I was in Junior High School, when my parents began attending the Presbyterian Church and our family became members there. I moved to Houston in 1974. My daughter Kimberly and I joined SBPC in 1984, and Kim also attended the Learning Center at that time. I was also on CE committee and helped with the Jr. High Youth. Kim continued to participate in church activities as a young adult after
I moved away from the community. I returned to Houston and to SBPC a couple of years ago and I’m currently serving in the choir.
