Partnering with God
The Word: “They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.”
—- I Timothy 6:18-19, NRSV
Reflection: When my sons were small we lived on a tight budget. Occasionally I would treat them to a Happy Meal at McDonald’s. Once, shortly after we sat down, a man with two very young children sat near us. It wasn’t long before everyone knew that this supper outing was not going well. Grandpa did not order Happy Meals. The disappointed children were crying over not receiving a toy. After a short while, one of my sons asked if they could give the children their toys from their Happy Meals. I told them that I would not be able to buy them something else if they gave away the toys and they understood. Still they wanted to give the toys. After my sons gave the other children the toys there was joy on all their faces. This was my sons’ first lesson in being generous. What is your first memory of being generous? Do you have a memory of a stranger’s generosity to you? How did either or both events shape you?
Pray: God never let me forget Your generosity to me. Help me to live a real life based on Your extravagantly generous love. Amen.
