Passing Along Our Faith to the Next Generation
by Patti Nanney
Winston Churchill once said, “Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.” That quote definitely fit the Israelites of the Old Testament.
This Sunday begins a five-week look at the Book of Judges. The first week focuses on how the first generation after the Israelites entered The Promised Land they “knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.”
Their parents may have told them about God’s miracles, but they did not see them with their own eyes. They took for granted the good life in The Promised Land. In their prosperity, they forgot the Lord.
They were not unlike 2nd-generation business owners who do not appreciate the sacrifice of long hours and lean times of their parents. And they resemble some 2nd-generation Christians who do not take their faith seriously because they have never known what it is like not to be a Christian.
Join the “Saints Under Construction” class on Sunday morning at 9:30 in Room 2 of The Gathering Place as we discuss how we can learn from and not repeat failures by looking at biblical history.
