SBPA Teachers Working Towards CDA Certificates
The Academy teachers all started classes on September 7th to earn their Child Development Associate certificate. The teachers will be attending classes on Wednesday nights this month and through October 19th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. This has been a long term goal of the Academy for our teachers to have the opportunity to gain this certification and it is finally starting to be realized.
What is a CDA Certificate? A CDA or Child Development Associate certification is a type of certification offered through the Council for Professional Recognition. Many employers in the early childhood education and care fields require candidates without a degree in early education to hold a CDA certificate. Many other area churches that have daycare programs require CDA certificates for their staff and we are facilitating getting this certification for our teachers as well.
Why is the CDA important? There are two reasons the CDA certifications are good for our church. First of all, we are investing in the professional development of our Academy staff. There is very little turn over in our staff and they do a great job with our kids. It is a forward step in the right direction for our teachers to have this higher level of education. Second, having all the teachers certified with their CDA will help us continue to attract new families and be able to compete with similar programs where the teachers have this certification. Currently, the Academy only has 6 open spots and we are wait listed in almost every classroom. The Academy is very healthy financially. One way to keep enrollment up is to be sure our staff is competitive with the talent pool at other similar programs.
