Seeds With Wings
The Word: “A sower went out to sow his seed…”
— Luke 8:5, NSRV
Reflection: Have you ever noticed how many ways nature has for scattering seeds?
One of them is to equip the seed with “wings”. There are a variety of plants that use this technique, papery appendages that allow the wind to lift and carry the seed far away. Like the parable of the sower in Luke, sometimes the seed finds a place to take root. Seeds of generosity blown by the Spirit need places where they can take root, be nurtured and grow. When these seeds mature they will grow more seeds to further spread the Word of God in the world. We, as disciples of God, need to be passionately, extravagantly generous in casting our “seeds of generosity” and providing fertile ground for them to grow. Think of someone in your life, someone not in your family, that has “sown seeds of generosity in your life? What legacy of generosity has shaped you?
Pray: Generous God, help us to remember the legacies of generosity in our lives and to give thanks for those who “planted seeds”. By your Spirit strengthen and encourage us that we may also “plant seeds” and nurture these that we may become a legacy of extravagant generosity in someone else’s life. Amen.
