STRUGGLING WITH SCRIPTURE
STRUGGLING WITH SCRIPTURE
There is a lot of discussion swirling around the Presbyterian Church, (USA) about the vote that was passed last Spring about the ordination of pastors, elders and deacons. At the request of the Session, the CE Ministry Team is offering a series to help people not only understand the vote but also in their struggle with how we use scripture to live out our faith. Beginning the week of Rally Day, we are offering the following:
September 15, Thursday evening 7 PM | Struggling with Scripture : Biblical Authority: A Personal Reflection, presented by Mark Plunkett |
September 18, Sunday evening 5 PM | Struggling with Scripture: Struggling with Scripture presented by Louise Row, retired pastor from Jasper, Texas |
September 25, Sunday evening 5 PM | Struggling with Scripture: The Last Word on Biblical Authority, presented by Rev. Jim Macleod |
October 2, Sunday evening, 5 PM | How Presbyterians Read and Understand Scripture, presented by Dr. Bob Murphy |
October 16, Sunday evening, 5 PM | “What Exactly Was the Vote and What Does It Mean For Our Congregation?” led by Rev. Pat Clark. Presbytery Moderator & former Interim |
For the first three forums, it is highly recommended that participants read Struggling With Scripture. It is a small book written by three well known seminary professors, Walter Bruegemann, William Placher and Brian Blount. It is very short – each author has written a chapter and each speaker will talk about one chapter. The books will be available on Rally Day. The CE Ministry Team encourages all to attend who are struggling with faith, scripture and the church.

This is a great class and I have already gotten a lot out of it!
