Why is white the color for Eastertide?
Each season of the Christian year has a color that goes along with the season. The liturgical color of Eastertide is white.
White symbolizes purity, holiness, and virtue, as well as respect and reverence. White reminds Christians that, through Jesus’s tortuous death and resurrection, their sins are forgiven, and they are made pure. White also signifies God’s victory over the powers of evil, the perfection of God’s work, and our joy.
White is used for all high Holy Days and festival days of the Church Year, especially the seasons of Christmas and Easter, as well as for baptism, marriage, dedications, and in some traditions for the ordination of ministers. It is also used for funerals as a symbol of the resurrection.
